A multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open access journal serving the nuclear engineering community.
EDP Sciences and China Science Press have today announced the launch of a new academic research journal, Research & Design of Nuclear Engineering (RDNE). RDNE is published on behalf of China Nuclear Power Engineering and is dedicated to advancing knowledge and innovation in nuclear science, technology, and engineering.
This journal focuses on research that advances nuclear energy and related fields. Recognising the increasing maturity of nuclear fission power generation, the journal primarily publishes technical and engineering studies, as well as practical applications in nuclear science and technology. The journal also encourages contributions that offer innovative perspectives.
More information on the journal Aims & Scope can be found at: https://rdne.edpsciences.org/about-the-journal/aims-and-scope
With academic integrity as the highest priority, the journal is published under the guidance of an expert editorial board, led by Editor-in-Chief Pengfei Xu (China Nuclear Power Engineering), with every article subject to rigorous peer review. RDNE strictly follows COPE guidelines and other ethical best practices, in line with EDP Sciences’ global journals policy.

In an Editorial prefacing Volume 1, 2025, Prof. Xu writes that: “the deep integration of intelligent technologies is driving significant changes in the nuclear industry. Digital transformation has affected every stage of the nuclear energy lifecycle, and the widespread use of digital technologies like artificial intelligence and the industrial Internet will greatly improve the safety, reliability, and sophistication of nuclear power. The interaction between digital technology and nuclear energy will become increasingly prominent.”
He continued:“As a result, we recognize the vital role that industry scientists and engineers play. We are excited to announce the launch of the international journal, ‘Research & Design of Nuclear Engineering,’ driven by a sense of purpose and enthusiasm.”
